Sheffield children’s
Scrapstore
We are a charitable organisation established 22 years ago to promote play activities for children. We collect safe waste materials from local businesses and sell them very cheaply in our shop on Nursery Street. This saves items that still have some useful life left in them from going straight to landfill sites. We also run workshops to give groups ideas on how to use the materials.
Children’s Scrapstore is run on a membership basis for groups who provide activities for children, and this includes both voluntary and statutory groups in Sheffield and the surrounding area.
Scrapstore was run for many years by dedicated volunteers, it was only in January 2001 that a successful funding bid to the National Lotteries Community Fund brought two paid workers on board. Although we still rely heavily on the help we get from our volunteers, we have since gone from strength to strength, and we are finding that we simply don’t have the space we need in our current premises. We now have plans to move to a much bigger building next to Meadowhall of course it all depends on funding (as these matters always do) so fingers crossed! If we’re successful we’ll be able to offer a much bigger and better service to all our members.
