SADACCA joins stand against violent crime
by Rob Smith
In reaction to the recent spate of shootings and stabbings and the high police presence in the area, a public meeting was called at
SADACCA.
A number of business owners within the area stated they were seriously considering relocating or closing down. Milton Samuels told the meeting,
" On May the 24th 2002 South Yorkshire Police were issued a P60 from the Home Secretary. This allows them to stop and search anyone travelling in and around the Burngreave area between 6pm Friday and 7am Monday mornings."
Some stated concerns about the stigma and media hype whenever anything negative takes place in Burngreave.
" Not only black people commit crimes and shooting incidents go on in other parts of the city."
As a result of the meeting SADACCA are planning a protest march against violent crime and are working to agree a date with the police.
