Owlerbrook Nursery Infant School,
A Beacon to the Nation!
Just two years ago Owlerbrook was classed as having ‘serious weaknesses’ , now it is to be held up as a ‘Beacon’ of good practice in the country. It is one of 150 schools named by the Department of Education and Skills (DfES), recognising it as amongst the best performing in the country.
Unusually for a Beacon School, the school is situated in a economically disadvantaged area, and is part of the Sheffield North East Education Action Zone. It is also one of only a handful of Nursery Infant Schools to achieve such status nationally.
“This is a school that has achieved so much,” said Head Teacher Sue Graville, “and it is entirely down to the teaching staff….they have really worked hard to turn things around.”
“Our school is successful because it is a truly multicultural community. We have 17 nationalities represented within the school, with 8 languages spoken. The children genuinely draw on the richness of the mix.”
