The boy who liked to kick ball 24 - 7

10 year old Nathan Modest smiles broadly as he informs me of how he represents a future that many of us are working hard to make possible, for other children in and around our community.

“I play for Sheffield Wednesday Youth team.” The young man explains quite undaunted at being interviewed, kicking his ball in the middle of the street. “ I’ve played at Blackburn, Leeds, Barnsley and Newcastle, we go all over.”
“What about Liverpool?”
“Na, they’re not on our fixture, but maybe they will be next year, I’d like to go and play them.”
“Well, I hear ya got a good left foot kid, what position d’you play in?”
“I’m a striker. Ya know. Like Beckham!”
“Ha” I grinned enquiring whether he’d like to take this sport up as a profession and he cracked a smile “Of course.”
“And what do you reckon ya chances are of making it kid?”
“Good,” he replied, stopping the ball dead under one foot and throwing his thumbs in the air.
