BurnWhere?

As an Abbeyfield Road resident, I am very happy with the traffic-calming scheme, but was surprised to find that new Council signs call the area ‘Burnwood’. Where on earth is Burnwood? I thought I lived in Pitsmoor. Friends and neighbours were as bemused as myself. 

The decision to call the schemes ‘Burnwood’ and ‘Burnbank’ (the name of the scheme on the Rock Street side of Burngreave Road) were made by the Burngreave Area Panel. Maybe they would like to explain in the next issue of the Messenger? The cynical might think this was a plan to give Pitsmoor and Burngreave a new identity. To give Sheffield Council their due the children’s pictures on the signs are great, and it’s nice to see some work done in the area.
