Cycling in Burngreave

By Andrew Richards

Do you cycle in Burngreave - or would you like to? If you’re a non-cyclist, maybe you’d like to see more cyclists to help reduce road congestion and pollution. Perhaps you’d like your children to have more opportunity to ride their bikes in safety.

The Burngreave Cycle Strategy Group was formed last year to represent the views of cyclists in Burngreave, and to aim for specific improvements. We want to put together a proposal for the New Deal ‘Cycle Strategy’. As well as the obvious things like cycle routes and cycle stands, we’re also looking at other subjects, including how to cater for children’s needs in the area.

We hope to encourage other projects in Burngreave, and to be a voice for local cyclists’ needs. We’re taking a close interest in projects such as safe routes to schools, the new cyclist/pedestrian bridge over the Don and the proposed Inner Relief Road

We’d welcome your input on what needs doing for cyclists in the area, and your support in the group. Contact Andrew on 276 6363 or e-mail andrew@tic.ch for more details, or come along to our next meeting: Friday 8th March at Breathing Space (14 Burngreave Road).
