Don't forget Osgathorpe Park

by Rob Smith

I’d been along to the Fir Vale voluntary Youth project in Osgathorpe Park on a number of occasions and was aware of the need to develop the potential here.

“We offer a diverse variety of activities to young people in a formal and informal non- threatening environment “ explains one of the workers.

Staff team Mahmood Hussein Mohamed Islam Khan Zulficar Afzal and Habid Yamin have organised many challenging and exciting trips as well as promoting events and are now preparing for next year.

“We‘ve taking kids on fire and safety competitions, trips to Laser Zone, we’ve even had an educational visit to Turkey, plus residential courses and training.” explains Mahmood

“I’ve lived here for 30 years and strongly believe the young people of Burngreave, Fir Vale and surrounding areas have a lot of potential and talent that needs to be nurtured and channelled into positive directions”

Sheffield-born coffee-bar worker Habid Yamin attended local schools:

“I used to come to the Fir Vale Youth Project as a member and ended up by volunteering to help with various activities, now I’m attending a Youth and Community Work Course accredited by Sheffield College”
