Marcia’s Caribbean & English Take Away

Food glorious food! Entering the Caribbean kitchen, my nose smelt the frying, finger-linking chicken. On the menu rice, peas, Akee and saltfish, fried fish, deep fried chicken and in a cooling-off section, a tempting selection of Caribbean fruit punch drinks. Marcia herself was present on my arrival and began to explain how five years ago her initiative sprouted from her work around Ellesmere Youth Project. “I’m proud to say it’s an initiative that’s now created Sheffield’s most established Caribbean food Takeaway. It’s famous, with visiting show people searching out Caribbean cuisine, the shops recent visitors being S Club 7 and Gabriel.” Marcia added that she would cater out to any small functions and small parties at any pre arranged date and time.

Impressions Asian Clothing

“For many years people in our community have travelled to places like Bradford and Manchester to buy traditional Asian clothing, especially around the celebration of Eid.” Explains 17 year old Tahir Tufail. I’d entered a quite large space surrounded by traditional and westernised Asian clothing, as well as accessories, steel pots and cooking pans, hair cosmetics and Islamic culture displaying books jewellery and bangles. Tahir Tufail, explained about being a third generation trader after his grandfather Haji Tufail Hussein. Running his first enterprise Tahir hopes to blend his third generation Muslim educated culture and part westernisation into his business.

First Choice Hair & Beauty Care

First Choice Hair and Beauty Care opened up to do a thriving business just over eight weeks ago. I went along to speak to the beauty care salon’s proprietor Sharon Hastings, and checked out the huge range of products she has on sale. “We mainly cater for Afro-Caribbean hair products but do some English as well, relaxers, wigs and extensions”, Sharon explained. The shop was laid out beautifully with shelves stocked with hair cosmetics and beauty skin products including Single Bible intensive hair treatment, root stimulators, organic hair mayonnaise, West Indian castor oil; herbal oil; carrot oil; growth repair conditioners Doogro; curl texturiser; curling tongs and turbo hairdryers. Also men’s skin and hair products; Dax Sporting Wave; Sweat Georgia Brown, Smooth Magic razorless hair removing cream; Bump Stopper and Bay Rum skin toner; children and babies hair and skin selection Soft and Precise; Pretty and Silky and much more.
