Tablets not talk
by Mark Lankshear
The North Sheffield Primary Care Trust have comissioned a report into counselling services which found that existing services were highly valued but not available through all practices. The report called on the PCT to make services available throughout North Sheffield but as they finalise this year’s spending plans no funding has been found.
The PCT is under pressure to deliver on a range of government targets, including reducing hospital waiting times, and has to pay for the increased costs of a new generation of drugs for mental health problems. This decision, however, will do little to stop the excess of admissions to psychiatric wards, often outside Sheffield when the wards here are full.
