Burngreave Burns

By Mark Lankshear

Since the start of February 77 abandoned cars have been reported in Burngreave and 56 have been recovered. This process can take more than a month as the council have to place a notice on the car for two weeks before they can order it’s removal. Despite being reported the van pictured below was burnt out after sitting for over a month without a notice, so sometimes it doesn’t seem that they’re not even doing that.

A recent Community Safety Advisory Group (CSAG) heard complaints about dumped cars and the delay in their removal. Inspector Trevor Bichard told the Messenger that the New Deal police squad had been targeting abandoned vehicles and are looking at ways of speeding up their removal. If you want to report an abandoned vehicle, contact the team on 2964381. The CSAG are also planning to introduce a new reporting system so that people can put in complaints or comments anonymously. The next CSAG meeting will be deciding what else the New Deal police squad should be doing, all are welcome. To find out more about the CSAG contact Mary Sywyj on 2734076.
