Good news for Crabtree pond

by Sheffield Wildlife Trust

Sheffield Wildlife Trust has now secured funding for the management of its nine nature reserves throughout the city, including your local reserve right here in Burngreave!

The woodland and water of Crabtree Ponds provides a tranquil retreat for humans and a home for wildlife in this part of the city. The proposals for the reserve over the coming year include repairs to the footpaths, steps and benches, maintaining the trees in a safe condition, litter clearance, and creating education and interpretation programmes for the site.

The Wildlife Trust are ho;lding a series of Reserve Advisory Group meeting for Crabtree Ponds to discuss the work plan for the forthcoming year. They will provide local people with the chance to get involved in all aspects of improving the reserve, from designing interpretation boards to practical management work.

A Community Workday at Crabtree Ponds is planned for Saturday 25th May from 10.00am to 3.00pm. There will be a variety of tasks; access improvements such as cutting back vegetation and improving paths; clearing out the pond and generally tidying up the site. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to come along and help the Wildlife Trust look after this valuable green space.
