Local woman cycles to Cuba
By Carrie Hedderwick
Hola,
I am appealing for sponsorship for the Moncada Day Cycle Challenge around Cuba. The bike ride takes place from 25th July – 2nd August over a 210-mile route and is organised by Cuba Solidarity Campaign, which supports various Medical Aid projects in Cuba. The sponsorship money raised will be used to buy asthma inhalers for Cuban children. I know about asthma – both my kids used inhalers for several years, as have dozens of their school friends. So when I read an advert for the Cycle Cuba Challenge I was fired up – a really good cause and a way of getting to visit a country with an amazing history.
The US has imposed an increasingly comprehensive economic blockade on Cuba over the last 40 years so there are shortages of essential drugs and medical equipment. I need as much help as I can to reach the fundraising target of £900. I am paying my own travel and subsistence expenses. Please contact me on 0114 243 6775 or e-mail carrie@cannonhall.com
I will be at Abbeyfield Park Multi-Cultural Festival in July. Any other kind of support and advice would also be welcomed – cycling tips (I am only an occasional cyclist), a crash course in Spanish, salsa lessons etc etc. Thank You
